Fiji are located in the South Pacific 1,300 miles north from Auckland, NZ (3,100 miles away from Hawaii).
Islands:
-
Viti LevuViti Levu is one of the largest islands in the South Pacific. Nadi International Airport (Airport code: NAN) is located on the western side of the island. The airport started as a military air-base built by the allies during WWII. The Coral Coast which is only 30 miles south of Nadi is one of the most conveniently located resort areas (and one of the top tourist destinations in Fiji) as it is right on the Nadi-Suva highway - just a quick ride from the airport. Northern coast of Viti Levu offers less accommodations to visiting tourists despite the fact that it has it all: excellent beaches and diving places, breathtaking views, and it is easily accessible through a good network of roads.
-
Vanua LevuVanua Levu is Fiji's second largest island. Half the size of Viti Levu and farther away from Nadi than Yasawa islands, this island is less frequented by the tourists than Yasawa Islands and Viti Levu. However, it does have a few well established resorts specifically in Savusavu.
-
KadavuKadavu is third in size (after Viti Levu and Vanua Levu). It is located 100 miles south of Viti Levu. The island has an airstrip with flights from Nadi by Air Fiji. There are also a few boats sailing (infrequently) from Suva.
-
TaveuniTaveuni (the fourth largest island) is to the east of Vanua Levu and only a few miles away. The island is covered with tropical rain forest. It is home to Fiji's biggest nature reserves -- Bouma National Heritage Park. Taveuni has an airstrip with flights from Nadi (by Air Fiji).
-
Yasawa IslandsYasawa Islands are the archipelago of a dozen (or so) small volcanic islands 30 miles off the west coast of Viti Levu. The tourists reach the islands by boats sailing from Nadi and Lautoka.
-
Mamanuca IslandsMamanuca is a group of very small islands that are very close to Nadi which makes them a popular tourist destination. It's especially a great place for those who like water sports: diving, surfing, fishing, water-skiing.
